Life With Baby Update #2 (Food, Fitness, And What We’ve Been Up To)

Hey there, everyone! I sure miss blogging more often, but being a mommy takes my time and energy. I sure do adore my little one and am trying to soak in every little bit of this time.

My husband went back to work this week which was hard on me because I can’t sneak out at all, but baby k and I manage to fill our days! I don’t feel comfortable taking her anywhere yet, so in between naps she feeds, we read books and sing. During her naps, I try to get things done around the house.

SLEEP:

I will start by saying I am in a constant state of exhaustion. Baby sleeps okay, but getting up throughout the night is hard. My body craves a full night of rest.

My husband has been wonderful the past few nights. Baby hasn’t gone back to sleep after her 5 am feeds, so Brad takes her and plays with her so I can sleep longer.

She naps in her doc a tot during the day.

I should sleep during her naps, but I try to get things done around the house instead.

FOOD:

I have been hungrier due to breastfeeding, and am trying to eat healthy (although this can be tough).

Just a few dinners we have had lately! Venison, shrimp and potatoes, chicken and dumplings (healthified), a huge salad from Whole Foods, and Antipasto squares!

As far as baby goes, she feeds very well, but sometimes too quickly. We’ve had some bouts of vomiting (which is so hard for this mamma to watch)!

FITNESS:

My body has healed so well, and I have been able to incorporate some (easy) fitness back into my routine! I have taken some walks, done some light pure barre videos, and some squats holding baby!

CATS:

They are adjusting to their sister, although I know they miss having me all to themselves.

OVERALL:

Life as a mommy is so amazing and I wouldn’t change a thing! I can’t wait until the weather is warmer and we can go outside.

That’s all for this update.

Have a great day!

With love,

Carly

Life With Baby

Hi, all! Today is technically my due date with baby K. Hard to believe we have had her with us since the 9th. Being a new parent it tough and exhausting, but the love I have for our sweet daughter is unlike anything I have ever felt before.

I have been healing well and am getting around quite well at this point. I haven’t weighed myself, but my body has gone down close to where it was pre-pregnancy. I am proud of how healthy I stayed during pregnancy!

Breastfeeding:

This has had its ups and downs. I love it so much the times baby latches easy and stays on well, but that isn’t always the case. I had bad engorgement for a few days, which was terribly painful. Sometimes she gets frustrated, so I pump and give a bottle when all else fails. I will continue to keep working on it. I love how we bond during feedings!

Food:

I have been eating more than usual to keep my milk supply up! Most of the time it is healthy, other times it is more convenient.

Exercise:

The recommendation is to wait 6 weeks, so I have just been doing some walking and stretching. Listening to my body has been so important for recovery!

Sleep:

Oh how I miss my sleep lol!! Baby keeps us up quite a bit, but I know this won’t last forever! They say to nap when baby does during the day, but I have been using that time to get other things done.

Getting Out:

Since my husband has been off of work, I have gotten out to grab coffee, grocery shop, and even get a hair cut. He goes back to work on Monday and I’m bummed, but I guess it had to happen eventually.

Visitors:

I feel like we have had a lot of visitors, and that has been a little overwhelming. I love having one person over at a time, but when a crowd comes over, it is too much. I need to be better about saying no. I notice my anxiety gets higher with a lot of people and I want to keep the little one healthy.

Cats:

The cats are starting to adjust to their sister, but have been stand off-ish. They both have sniffed her and occasionally get close, but most of the time they keep a little distance. I am hopeful that they will be the best of friends!

Overall:

I am so in love with our sweet girl and am soaking up every second of her being so little. We have her newborn pictures tomorrow and I am so excited!!

Isn’t she perfect??

Thanks for reading my update!

Carly

My Labor And Delivery Story

Hi, guys! We are officially home with baby and learning our new “normal.” Our daughter is perfect and beautiful and my heart continues to explode with love for her.

As a first time mom, I had no idea what to expect when it came to labor and to be honest, I was scared.

Here is my story….

THURSDAY FEBRUARY 7:

I started having contractions throughout the night, but was able to sleep in between them. I knew they weren’t strong enough or close enough together to go in yet, so I just dealt with them at home.

FRIDAY FEBRUARY 8:

I had an appointment that morning, and the dr. certainly didn’t think I would go into labor that night.

I attempted to go to work, but continued to have contractions so I went home. They started getting stronger, so my mom headed to my house. I called my husband and said he needed to leave work. I showered, packed our bags, and left.

We were in triage for hours, only to be sent home because my contractions were 7 minutes apart and they needed to be 3 or 4.

As soon as we left, my contractions got so bad I truly didn’t think I could handle it any longer. I had terrible back labor. My husband timed my contractions and they c ame every 3 minutes for the next two hours, so we headed back to the hospital.

I was finally admitted around midnight and asked for an epidural immediately. The relief was amazing and necessary for me.

SATURDAY FEBRUARY 9:

I labored throughout the night and morning, and progressed naturally. They did have to break my water, and once they did that I quickly made it to 10 cm dialated.

I opted to have the mirror lowered so I could watch, and the experience was amazing.

After an hour and 10 minutes of pushing, our daughter was born. She had the cord wrapped around her neck and swallowed some fluid, but the team was quick and baby girl was just fine.

Once the epidural wore off, they moved us to another room.

Our girl had some issues, but we had the best care. I had hemorrhoids and stitches because I had an episiotomy. Needless to say, it was very painful.

That whole day was a whirlwind with nurses, doctors, and visitors (mostly family and my best friend).

I learned that the bathroom is a chore and scary after delivery!

I also learned how to breastfeed, which is hard but wonderful.

We barely slept that night.

COMPLICATIONS:

Baby girl had jaundice so we had to stay at the hospital until Tuesday.

GOING HOME:

When baby was cleared, we FINALLY headed home (Tuesday night).

Now we are enjoying our beautiful, healthy baby girl and loving every minute of it.

Thanks for reading!

A Baby Filled Weekend (A 1st Birthday Party And My Baby Shower)

Hi, all! Sunday is winding down, and I am laying here with my husband. Our weekend was so nice and full of love! It was busy, so I didn’t get my typical weekend cleaning done, but I have some time over Thanksgiving week to do that.

Let’s recap the weekend!

SATURDAY:

The day started early with online teaching. After teaching, I did a quick pure barre video before getting ready for the day.

My husband and I headed out late morning to go to Cincinnati to celebrate my niece’s first birthday!

When we got there, they had a taco bar for lunch.

It was yummy!

The birthday girl opened presents and gobbled down her cake. We also watched football and just enjoyed the day with my family!

By the time we got home, we didn’t want to cook so we picked up Jersey Mikes subs for dinner.

We ate and watched TV until bed.

SUNDAY:

My mom came over early and we went to church together. It was so nice. After church, we picked up smoothies before heading back to my place.

I had a hair appointment (which ended up being a slight fiasco). Insted of checking me in when I got there, they canceled my appointment. By the time it was all figured out, we started super late, and I didn’t have time to get my hair washed. She curled it quickly! Luckily, they didn’t charge me.

I hurried home, changed, then headed to my baby shower.

My adorable, delicious cake.

Our yummy spread of food!!

Our sweet girl was so spoiled today!! She will be here before we know it!

I hope you all had a great weekend!

With love,

Carly

Our Chicago Getaway

Hello, everyone! I hope you are having a lovely weekend. We are driving home from our mini vacation to Chicago. It was a blast! It was a perfect way to celebrate Brad’s 30th birthday, our anniversary, and our “babymoon.” Let’s jump right in…

FRIDAY:

We left home around 8am and made the 6 hour drive to Chicago. We arrived at our Airbnb around 2:30 ish, unpacked and settled in.

We changed, called an uber, then headed into the city.

Our first stop was the bean to get some pictures!

It started getting a little dark, so we walked over to the Chicago theater to see it all lit up. It was so pretty!!

The evening was absolutely freezing, so we decided on an early dinner at Giordano’s! We got salads and pizzas. Everything was super yummy!

After dinner, we ubered back to our Airbnb, watched a movie, then crashed hard!

SATURDAY:

I woke up before my husband, so I did a short pregnancy workout video. When he woke up, we walked (in the 19 degree weather) to Starbucks for coffee and breakfast.

After breakfast, we got ready for the day and ubered into the city. We walked around until it was time for our first activity!

At noon, we did the Chicago Theater Tour and it was absolutely fantastic! We loved learning the history and not to mention, I adore the theater!

I was like a kid in a candy store Haha!

After the tour, we stopped at a food truck for lunch and ate in the sunshine. Chicago style hot dogs are no joke! YUM!!!

After lunch, we headed to the field museum. It was huge and there was so much to see! We loved the dinosaur exhibit, and also ancient Egypt.

After the museum, we walked a bunch more and saw the bean at night, along with other cool parts of the city.

Our next stop was the John Hancock building! We did Chicago 360, which takes you super high to see some beautiful views. I’m so glad we went at night! There was a wait for this and I was getting nauseous, but felt better once we got to the top.

Afterwards, we were both wiped out from walking all day so we headed to dinner at Gino’s East. I needed water and to just sit. It felt amazing to relax. I wasn’t in the mood for pizza again so I got minestrone soup and a delicious salad with grilled chicken, candied walnuts, cranberries, radishes, cheese chunks, and their delicious house dressing.

After dinner, we ubered back to the Airbnb and both crashed quickly. My total steps on my Fitbit was almost 25,000 for the day! Crazy!!

SUNDAY:

This morning, we packed up early, grabbed Starbucks, and started the trip home. I can’t wait to see my kitties!!

I hope you enjoy the rest of your Sunday, everyone!

With love,

Carly
