Easy, Affordable Ways to Bring More Self-Care to Your Day (Guest Post)

Hello, everyone! Today, I have an awesome guest post brought to us by Brad Krause at

Hope you enjoy!

.We all know that self-care is crucial to a healthy, balanced life. Taking care of yourself can boost your mental, emotional, and physical health. According to Good Therapy, people who “adequately meet their needs are often able to better cope with everyday stressors.” In addition to boosting resiliency, self-care also reduces stress, fatigue, depression, and anxiety.

Of course, it can sometimes be tricky squeezing “me” time into your day along with all your other responsibilities. That’s especially true if you’re on a tight budget and can’t afford a massage or a fancy day spa.

Luckily, caring for yourself doesn’t have to be tedious or expensive. You can prioritize your needs without spending a dime or even leaving your house.

The following self-care tips can help improve your mental health on any budget.

Get Enough Shut-eye

When you think about self-care, what comes to mind? An exotic vacation? A trip to an extravagant day spa? Perhaps even a luxurious yoga retreat? Believe it or not, taking care of yourself starts in the comfort of your own home. One convenient, cost-effective way to start prioritizing your needs is by getting enough sleep.

Sleep keeps your heart, immune system, and mind healthy. According to Very Well Health, it boosts your memory, reduces inflammation, and may even prevent certain cancers. If you’re prone to late-night anxiety, insomnia, or have difficulty falling asleep, there are some things you can do. First, try going to sleep and waking up at the same time each day. Consistency helps regulate your body’s natural circadian rhythm. To help kickstart the process, you could also take natural supplements like CBD oil or melatonin, both of which can help you fall asleep.

You could also turn your bedroom into a relaxing haven. To help get some shut-eye, paint the walls a soothing shade like green or blue. Next, purchase a few sleep-friendly products like comfortable bedding, memory foam pillows, or even a white noise machine. Look to stores like Macy’s or Bed, Bath & Beyond for great deals on quality linens, and don’t forget to scout around for coupon codes or discounts to help stretch your dollars.

Physical Activity

Like sleep, fitness is crucial to self-care. In addition to making you feel more self-confident about your body, exercise can improve your mood, reduce stress, and ease anxiety. You don’t have to purchase an expensive gym membership to get more physical activity. Instead, invest in some at-home fitness gear like exercise balls, yoga blocks and straps, and a supportive fitness mat.

Of course, if you’re the type of person who enjoys working out with other people, then you might benefit from splurging a little on a monthly gym membership. Of course, if you’re a senior who has a Medicare Advantage plan through a company like Humana, you don’t have to worry about this added expense. Many Medicare Advantage plans, Humana’s included, allow seniors to take part in the SilverSneakers program, which provides zero-cost gym benefits at different fitness centers around the United States. This is a good way for older adults to keep in shape and stay socially active, both of which are incredibly important as we get older.

Make Time for YOU

Getting some alone time is arguably the least expensive and most essential tip of all. Prioritize your needs by maintaining healthy boundaries. It’s okay to decline additional responsibilities to make more time for yourself. Reducing stress not only keeps you healthier and happier, but it also makes you better equipped to help others. After all, you can’t pour from an empty cup.

Use that extra time to rest and relax, even if only for a few minutes. Diffuse essential oils like lavender, or light incense or sage. Meanwhile, listen to some relaxing music. Purchase a meditative CD or search for playlists on Amazon, Spotify, or YouTube. If you’re stuck in rush hour traffic, satellite radio stations offer peaceful, commercial-free channels like Sirius XM’s Spa channel (channel 68) or Yoga music channel (channel 1092).

Getting enough self-care each day doesn’t have to be hard. Many overlooked practices, like the ones mentioned above, are easy and cost-effective to implement in your daily routine. Simply taking time for a few deep breaths, going for a walk in nature, or stopping to smell the flowers won’t cost you a dime. These daily self-care practices will leave you feeling refreshed and mentally ready to tackle whatever comes your way.

Healthy Breakfast Tacos And Air Fried Sweet Potatoes

Happy hump day, friends!! I am still on winter break and enjoying every relaxing second of it. Today I am heading to visit my family and can’t wait to see my new niece.

Anyway, this past Saturday one of my very best friends came to visit and stay the night. She has been my cooking buddy since college, so in the morning, after church, we went to the market to get food for brunch. We decided on breakfast tacos and they were delicious!!

For the tacos:

  • Eggs
  • Veggies  (we used peppers and onions)
  • Cheese (we used cheddar)
  • Tortillas (we used corn)
  • Turkey sausage  (we used this as a side, but you can cut it up for the tacos)
  • Salt and pepper
  • Avacado, salsa and any other toppings of choice

For the sweet potatoes

  • 2 large sweet potatoes, cut into chunks
  • 1 TBSP melted coconut oil
  • Salt and pepper

  1. Add veggies in a large pan with a little olive oil and cook until soft
  2. Once veggies are soft, add in your eggs and mix everything together
  3. Keep heat low to medium and stir as needed
  4. Meanwhile, mix your chopped up sweet potato in the melted coconut oil and place in air fryer at 350 for about 15 to 20 minutes  (shake half way through)
  5. Make sausage according to package
  6. Once eggs are cooked, add cheese and seasonings
  7. Once everything is cooked, assemble tacos and enjoy!!

Have a great day and happy eating!!

6 Ingredient Skinny Cheesecake And Days 6 And 7 of the B and W Photo Challenge

Hey there, everyone! I hope your week is treating you well!! Mine has been okay, but I sure am ready for the weekend.

Let’s talk cheesecake. I have always loved cheesecake. It is quite possibly my favorite dessert! I do not, however, enjoy the calories. I decided to make a healthier version on Thanksgiving and it was a hit! My brother-in-laws asked me to make it for all of our family functions. Healthy, easy, and delicious is a win in my book!

I found the crust recipe on Pinterest last year and it has been a staple for me. The filling I just threw together one day and loved it!!

For the crust:

  • 15 dates, soaked in warm water for about 15 minutes, then pitted
  • 1 and 1/2 cups of cashews

For the filling:

  • 1 container of vanilla greek yogurt
  • 8 ounces of greek yogurt cream cheese
  • 1/4 cup of truvia or sweetener of choice
  • Fruit for topping

    1. Make the crust by mixing together the dates and cashews in a food processor or high speed blender (I used my ninja)
    2. Press the crust into a round pie dish
    3. Place crust in the fridge while you make the filling
    4. In a bowl, mix together the yogurt, cream cheese, and sweetner of choice
    5. Remove crust from the fridge and put the filling inside
    6. Top with fruit of choice
    7. Cover and store in fridge until you are ready to serve

    I hope you enjoy!

    To change the subject…

I was challenged to do the black and white photo challenge (rules on my previous posts) and here are the final pictures:

      Simple Single Serve Skinny Cheesecake

Hi there, everyone! I hope you are having a great week so far! Mine has been semi stressful, so I am trying to remind myself to continue with my positive thinking.

I typically have a snack after work to hold me over until dinner. Usually, I will have a small amount of mixed nuts or cereal, but I wanted something different today, so I whipped up a super simple mini cheesecake. It was delicious!!

My version was chocolate peanut butter, but you can easily make it any flavor you like.

      • 1/2 a graham cracker sheet
      • 1 heaping TBSP of greek yogurt cream cheese
      • 2 TBSP of greek yogurt  (I used vanilla)
      • Truvia or sugar (optional, I left this out)
      • Any add ins to make it the flavor you like  (I used 1 TBSP of chocolate peanut butter protein powder and cocoa nibs) *you can add strawberry jam and top with strawberries* the possibilities are endless.

Everything I used, minus the cocoa nibs.

      • Mix together cream cheese, yogurt, sugar (if using), and add ins on choice.
      • Spread mixture over grahm cracker.
      • Add additional toppings.
      • Enjoy!!

Such an easy and tasty little treat!

I hope you like this recipe!

Have a wonderful rest of your day.

Simple & Healthy Lobster Mac And Cheese

Good morning and happy Friday! I could not be more ready for a long weekend. This week hit me hard and I’m ready to get rest!

Tonight we plan on renting a movie and having dinner on the couch. Tomorrow will be filled with house work, relaxing, and a potential date night. On Sunday, my husband is racing his car at an event near us. Since Monday is labor day and neither of us have work, we will probably just relax and cook out. Yay for the weekend!

      Anyway, on to the food!

Does anyone love and shop at Kroger!? It is my jam.  I love getting my free Friday download every week. Last week was a box of Annie’s Mac and Cheese. It is organic, natural, healthy, and TASTY! I wanted to do something fun with it for dinner a night so I decided to make the easiest lobster mac and cheese ever!

      • 1 box of Annie’s Mac and Cheese (I used white cheddar. I used Kraft for my husband’s meal)
      • Imitation lobster meat  (I used about half a bag)
      • 1 can of fire roasted tomatoes, drained (I used about half of it)
      • Any ingredients you need for Mac and Cheese *I needed butter (I used I can’t belive it’s not butter) and skim milk

      1. Cook mac and cheese according to package
      2. Add in lobster meat and fire roasted tomatoes
      3. Stir and heat until meat is warm
      4. Serve and enjoy! I had mine with cheesy toast

This dinner was delicious, simple, and perfect for next day leftovers!

If you try it, let me know!

      Have an awesome weekend!
