My Labor And Delivery Story

Hi, guys! We are officially home with baby and learning our new “normal.” Our daughter is perfect and beautiful and my heart continues to explode with love for her.

As a first time mom, I had no idea what to expect when it came to labor and to be honest, I was scared.

Here is my story….

THURSDAY FEBRUARY 7:

I started having contractions throughout the night, but was able to sleep in between them. I knew they weren’t strong enough or close enough together to go in yet, so I just dealt with them at home.

FRIDAY FEBRUARY 8:

I had an appointment that morning, and the dr. certainly didn’t think I would go into labor that night.

I attempted to go to work, but continued to have contractions so I went home. They started getting stronger, so my mom headed to my house. I called my husband and said he needed to leave work. I showered, packed our bags, and left.

We were in triage for hours, only to be sent home because my contractions were 7 minutes apart and they needed to be 3 or 4.

As soon as we left, my contractions got so bad I truly didn’t think I could handle it any longer. I had terrible back labor. My husband timed my contractions and they c ame every 3 minutes for the next two hours, so we headed back to the hospital.

I was finally admitted around midnight and asked for an epidural immediately. The relief was amazing and necessary for me.

SATURDAY FEBRUARY 9:

I labored throughout the night and morning, and progressed naturally. They did have to break my water, and once they did that I quickly made it to 10 cm dialated.

I opted to have the mirror lowered so I could watch, and the experience was amazing.

After an hour and 10 minutes of pushing, our daughter was born. She had the cord wrapped around her neck and swallowed some fluid, but the team was quick and baby girl was just fine.

Once the epidural wore off, they moved us to another room.

Our girl had some issues, but we had the best care. I had hemorrhoids and stitches because I had an episiotomy. Needless to say, it was very painful.

That whole day was a whirlwind with nurses, doctors, and visitors (mostly family and my best friend).

I learned that the bathroom is a chore and scary after delivery!

I also learned how to breastfeed, which is hard but wonderful.

We barely slept that night.

COMPLICATIONS:

Baby girl had jaundice so we had to stay at the hospital until Tuesday.

GOING HOME:

When baby was cleared, we FINALLY headed home (Tuesday night).

Now we are enjoying our beautiful, healthy baby girl and loving every minute of it.

Thanks for reading!

With love,

Carly

  1. Sounds like it wasn’t the easiest labor and delivery, but it’s good that baby girl was well looked after! I can’t imagine what life is like now with a little newborn, it’s definitely going to be a big adjustment, but I’m sure that little lady is worth it πŸ™‚ ❀
